In 2022, after nearly throwing in the towel on our ekoYOU business, we realised we had issues, until we worked out where they were coming from. Then we got to work on doing whatever it would take to understand how we could fix our issues - and it turned out they were about alignment, or lack of it.
Understanding alignment, and its role in successful family businesses, helped us fix our issues, and our business challenges. And now what we did is helping others to fix theirs too.

When We Nearly Walked Away
In 2022, we reached a breaking point. Running our business together as partners wasn’t working. Tension had built up, decisions weren’t being made, and every conversation seemed to end in frustration.
We found ourselves asking: “Is this even worth it?”
We were ready to walk away—not just from the business but from the dream we were building together.
What We Discovered That Made All the Difference
Before throwing in the towel, we had one final realisation: the problem wasn’t the business, it was us.
We were completely misaligned—on our vision, our roles, and how we communicated.
So, instead of walking away, we decided to face the misalignment head-on. We took a step back, uncovered the root issues, and worked out a system to align our vision, goals, and decision-making.

We Tried Other Things, But They Didn’t Work
We tried:

- Reading books and material that didn’t address family or partner dynamics
- Having endless conversations that went nowhere
- Coaching support that failed to understand the nuances of our issues.
None of it worked because the real issue was never addressed.
The real issue was all around ALIGNMENT.
What we did
So we figured it was valuable to dedicate time to exploring methods for understanding and managing alignment in businesses, particularly where relationships are intimate and personal.
We explored the link between alignment and success in business and personal relationships, by watching the dynamics in the close partnerships around us - our own and our clients', leading to the creation of The Alignment Code and a comprehensive suite of tools and resources, courses and programmes.
We changed the way we were showing up in our businesses and became better aligned with each other - and it changed EVERYTHING for the better.
